Is the "I WAKE UP WITH TODAY" Show competition rigged? I think so!

  1. At the end of the day we all sat back probably thinking the exact same thing and wondering why the hell we are not winning it (its like the lotto!) but half the people doing so havent even entered! Its all about statistics at the end of the day. More NSW winners because they have far more NSW viewers. Far more elderly people winning because there is a higher percentage of pensioners watching the show (and entering) than a younger age bracket. There are many people winning they might seem as deserving as others, as in they might already be homeowners or have a car etc, but the simple fact is its all about state of mind. These people might be more 'comfortable' and better off and generally have a more postive outlook (probably because they dont have much to really worry about!) and ACTUALLY take part in such competitions and keep adding to their good fortune. People is lesser situations and not as advantaged, generally take the attitude 'well Im not gonna win coz only crap ever happens to me so why bother'.... those that actually do bother may only do so once or twice. Maybe because they cant afford the calls or the txts or dont have a computer and so on, but at the end of the day some of these people who end up winning have entered HUNDREDS of times. Its all about statistics and common sense really. Its NOT rigged. Ambience

  2. It's true in part, but I'm not old or a pensioner and I've been entering for 2.5 years. Every time it's on I'm ringing up every day. I figure if only 350,000 people are watching and maybe only 100,000 entering I should have a fairly good chance since so many don't actually answer.

    Maybe it's just not meant to be, we are not all destined to win big, but then again, I can argue that my time is coming and so I shouldn't stop.

    I'm just very suspicious of the fact the winners are mostly older or pensioners. It's all very strange.

  3. Further to my previous comment... I am in my thirties, am a WA viewer, I have to rent, recently had my car inpounded, may be forced to give up my current job to travel restrictions and have just been presented with medical bills in the $1000's that my dying mother has incurred. I watch the show every morning and YES i kick myself that its not my phone that rings and YES Im sometimes tempted to mutter 'You b*stard!' when someone wins and they screeeeeech about the holiday theyre gonna spend it on BUT I DONT sit there feeling sorry for myself and contemplating the pros and cons of whether i didnt win coz they rig the draw. IT just makes no sense to me. All that would prove or achieve is they would lose viewers from other states..... why risk that???!

  4. 350,000? Is that actually the amount of their viewers? I hadnt looked into it myself but yes it would be approximately one third of that number that actually participate. (I have worked in the tv and film industries and have seen the 'workings' of similar comps etc). I do actually agree/believe in the theory that sometimes these things just arent meant to be. Everything does happen for a reason, however I definitely encourage you to keep entering and based on your figures etc then yes.... your chance may well be close! Likewise if they get round to actually ringing my number, I will be sure to give a shoutout to JewelsDiva and let you know that YES it is possible for us younger, more isolated, less fortunates to get in there!!! *grin*

  5. The usual tv surveys have it at about that. And have you noticed that people from WA are rarely called as well. I think Tassie got it's first call earlier this year and I've never heard NT get a call.

    I get really sick of people who start crying and will rattle of a list of illnesses and house issues and how they never win anything and why the money will help them so much.

    For God's sake, have a happy story for once and stop making me vomit.

    Be happy, say thanks you and how much it will change your life. I don't need to know about how sick you or your husband or your kid is or how bad off you are. MILLIONS of people are bad off in this country, and now the carbon tax is here, we will be more so.

  6. My querie is, is the one call I register carried over to the next day or not?
    Also dont think that channel 9 is a big spender,as each 55 cent call you make to register,channel 9 receives a big chunk of that I believe from the telco,so with maybe a million viewers registering and paying 55 cents,they could come out of it with a massive profit even after paying the prizes.
    I would be very interested to know how many calls are registered each day or each competition?

  7. I've been doing this for two years and ten months and I'm still not sure.

    Supposedly, if you make a call at say, midday, then it's for the next day's comp.

    If you make a call before 5 am that morning, you are in that mornings draw.

    Their website has all the details in the small print although I was told on their Facebook page that once you register it's for the entirety of the comp, so who knows.

    They tell you to register as many times as you like and I make one call per day so if everyone does that, it's a lot of money.

  8. Hi guys it's not rigged it's just luck. I have entered every day for 4 months straight and I got the call on 13th march 2013 for $30,000 and I missed the call because my son was in bed with me and I had my phone on silent I'm only 22 and I wouldn't be entering if I was at work every day but I'm a stay at home mum so I have time to enter. I am shocked at how soon I had won but idiot me had my phone on silent. The worst part was I was stepping out the shower and my husband came to the bath room with my phone saying they are calling you they said Ashleigh h...... From QLD and we stood infront of the tv watching them call and my phone wouldn't ring so I called them and they are an hour ahead of QLD time :( my husband didn't speak to me all day lol but I still get $500 but the $30,000 would have been a lot better! So everyone does have a chance of winning you just gotta be in it to win it :) good luck everyone.

    1. Geesh sorry to hear you missed it. I'm reading this now as I'm a stay at home mom as well with a mortgage and it sucks. That's ok.. if it's meant for you it's really for you. $500 isn't bad. .. Cheers x

  9. 4 months is nothing Ashleigh, try doing it for years like so many of us. As for not being prepared for winning, how stupid are you. Phone on silent and obviously not prepared. I have the phone with me every morning and a big yellow piece of paper with I WAKE UP WITH TODAY on it so I don't balls it up.

    You weren't lucky, you got called and didn't answer, you screwed it up. That's not luck, that's stupidity!

  10. Hi, Jewels,

    I've left a question with the ACCC regarding television and radio 'competitions' (lotteries really), acking the stations to reveal:

    - the number of SMSs received;
    - the amount of money raised each day;
    - the percentage pay-back from those thousands (hundreds of thousands?) $0.55c.

  11. Hi, Jewels,

    I have a pending question into the ACCC regarding these 'competitions' (lotteries, really):

    Quote:

    This is a general request that legislation &/or regulation be introduced regarding television, radio & other 'competitions' (actually, these are lotteries) to:

    - reveal the number of SMSs or similar messages which 'paid' for the lottery;

    - reveal the total amount of money raised from SMSs &/or other payments;

    - reveal the pay-back percentage distributed as 'prizes'.

    Typical examples are Nine's "I wake up with Today" and Seven's "Pop Quiz".

    1. Anon, this post is two years old and the rules have possibly changed. Presumably they do since they are a business and probably need to keep their number silent.
